Attorney – Peter Kaufman

Hot Flash Films is pleased to announce Peter Kaufman has joined our team as attorney.

Peter Kaufman has practiced law in Los Angeles, California since 1989 with a focus on
entertainment, intellectual property and media-related matters.

Mr. Kaufman represented the producers of $5 a Day starring Christopher Walken and
Sharon Stone, King of Fighters and Beverly Hills Ninja II; handled the financing of
Southland Tales starring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Sarah Michelle Gellar,
Peaceful Warrior starring Nick Nolte and The Good Night starring Gwyneth Paltrow for
Inferno Distribution; the production of All The Boys Love Mandy Lane and The Key Man
for Occupant Films; and the distribution of The Flock starring Richard Gere.

In television, Mr. Kaufman represented the US production of the television series,
Hu$tle for the BBC/A&E; Manhunters for Morningstar Entertainment and the
development of Dead Ringers – the television series with HBO based on the motion
picture directed by David Cronenberg.

In music-related matters, Mr. Kaufman recently represented WIDEawake
Entertainment Group in its successful acquisition of the Death Row Records music
and publishing catalog; the producer of the HD Rock Live television series starring
OAR, Death Cab For Cutie, Melissa Etheridge, Good Charlotte and others on HDNet
and Merle Haggard.

He is also an Arbitrator for the Independent Film and Television Alliance, an
association of over 100 international companies, including ABC, NBC, The Weinstein
Company and Lion’s Gate Entertainment.  In addition, he is a member of the
Academy of Television Arts & Sciences.

Mr. Kaufman has written about entertainment law for Los Angeles Lawyer Magazine
and regularly blogs at dealfatigue.com.

He has been a frequent speaker in the United States and abroad including The
Hollywood Film Festival, CeBit – Germany, the Atlas Film and TV Finance
Conference and the Los Angeles County Bar Association’s yearly symposia on
entertainment law.  Mr. Kaufman is the former chair of the Intellectual Property and
Entertainment Law Section of the Los Angeles County Bar Association.

Prior to his current practice, Mr. Kaufman served as General Counsel and Vice-President
of Business Affairs for Comedy World, Inc., a startup entertainment company. In 1998,
Mr. Kaufman became Vice-President of Business and Legal Affairs for Film Roman, Inc.,
the publicly held company that produces the animated television series The Simpsons, King
of the Hill and Family Guy.  Before moving to Film Roman, Mr. Kaufman was Director of
Business and Legal Affairs for the independent motion picture production and
distribution company, LIVE Entertainment Inc., (and remained there though its
transition to Artisan Entertainment Inc.; now merged with Lions Gate Entertainment).

Prior to his move into the entertainment and media fields, Mr. Kaufman was associated
with the Century City (Los Angeles) law firm, Parkinson, Wolf, Lazar and Leo.  He is a
graduate of Boston University’s School of Law and earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in
Political Science and Psychology from Emory University in Atlanta.
